I (Brian) have a background in all types of bridge construction and repair. The comment that I have often repeated is that, “When I was single and wanted to work a hundred hours a week (or more,) owning and operating a bridge construction company was a perfect job.” In that season of life, I extensively traveled the Western States from one project to another. From the rehabilitation of a historic concrete arch bridge in Glacier National Park, Montana to constructing new precast bridges in rural Washington to renovating a wooden covered bridge in Oregon to rehabilitating suspension bridges on protected Federal Land in Northern California to doing earthquake retrofit work to major highway bridges throughout Southern California and so many other projects, I was blessed with an excellent opportunity to learn much.
It was always a fun adventure to compete against the clock when a damaged bridge forced the closure of major interstates. In such situations there is naturally extreme pressure to expediently repair the damage and reopen the road. Some of my favorite projects involved structural steel repairs to major interstate bridges that were damaged and temporarily closed. Whether it was a ‘small’ $250,000 project or a larger multimillion-dollar project, being responsible for designing and directing the technical approach for our work operations as well managing and directing our crews was an enjoyable challenge.
In recent years, while my children have been young, I have intentionally been involved in more ‘tame’ vocational roles, throughout the broader contracting and building industry. I’ve spent time in estimating and project management roles in the asphalt industry and the demolition industry specifically. I’ve also spent time in a consultant role, developing and growing various businesses. In addition, I’ve been able to spend some time building and implementing technology solutions to help businesses streamline their operations.
Today, as my son is getting older, I am excited to start a new season of life working together with him in this company. We don’t expect to try and grow a particularly large company. Our main focus is just my son and I working together. We may need to hire a few employees to meet some needs but largely we’re excited to do the work ourselves, together.
We desire to be a genuine help and benefit to various property owners in the region. We have no interest in twisting arms or pressuring people. There seem to be plenty of opportunities for us to be of service to others.
We want to work hard and work diligently to provide our customers with a great value. We want to bring high quality equipment to the jobsite that makes us efficient and effective at what we do. And we want to bring competency and problem-solving abilities that are a blessing to our customers.
We believe work is a good and meaningful part of life—not just a means to a paycheck. We approach every job with purpose, knowing that hard work is part of how we were designed to serve others.
We strive to use our abilities righteously—to protect, provide, and build, not tear down. Our goal is to be a blessing to those we work for, using our strength and skills to benefit others, not ourselves.
We see our time, talents, and resources as gifts from God. We aim to be wise and diligent stewards, doing quality work that reflects integrity, humility, and a desire to honor Him in all we do.
